Luther Forum--Pastor King, Great Room of the Campus Center
Do you want to make a true difference in the world? Dr. Ron Sider does. He has, since before he first published Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger
in 1978. Despite a dramatic reduction in world hunger since then,
34,000 children still die daily of starvation and preventable disease,
and 1.3 billion people, worldwide, remain in abject poverty. So, the
professor of theology went back to re-examine the issues by twenty-first
century standards. Finding that Conservatives blame morally
reprehensible individual choices, and Liberals blame constrictive social
and economic policy, Dr. Sider finds himself agreeing with both sides.
In this new look at an age-old problem, he offers not only a detailed
explanation of the causes, but also a comprehensive series of practical
solutions, in the hopes that Christians like him will choose to make a
difference.

Weekday Faith Formation Classes
Lutheran Campus Ministry's Bible Study is each Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Lutheran Campus Center. The study will continue each week at the same time and place. Our focus will be the Gospel of Mark. This is the shortest and earliest (in most scholar's opinion) gospel. It is also the skeleton around which Matthew and Luke built their accounts. We often read scripture in an episodic fashion, so that we miss the flow. This study will take us from beginning to end so that we can see how Mark builds his narrative. In addition to reading the text we will also share our faith journeys and offer one another support in Christ. On Thursday, September 2, at 10:00 a.m., one of our weekday Faith Discussion Groups will begin meeting again. The group will be engaged in Part 2 of the DVD course, “Lost Christianities: Christian Scriptures and the Battles Over Authentication.” Come and see how our Bible came into being. You do not have to have been part of the group when it did Part 1 of this course to benefit from Part 2, as each week’s lecture is a unit unto itself.
Our Friday Noon Faith Discussion Group is already meeting. The group is continuing with a provocative DVD course entitled, “Religion and Science: Pathways to Truth.” Participants are encouraged to bring their lunches with them. Here again, those who weren’t part of the group when we started the course can still jump into the conversation because each presentation is a unit unto itself.

by Ron Hall & Denver Moore
Denver Moore grew up in Louisiana in the 1960's, working on a plantation as a modern-day slave. Ron Hall is an international arts dealer who moves between upscale New York galleries and celebrities. It seems unlikely that these two men would meet under normal circumstances. Until Deborah Hall, Ron's wife meets Denver and sees him through God's eyes of compassion. When Deborah is diagnosed with cancer she charges Ron with the mission of saving Denver. From this request, an extraordinary friendship forms between Denver and Ron, changing them both forever. A remarkable true story of friendship and unconditional love!
