FEBRUARY CHANGE FOR CHANGE
The Women of the Church (WELCA) are sponsoring this month’s Change for Change, the SMILES Backpack Program (Simple Meals Impacting Lives Every Saturday/Sunday). Sarah McPherson, a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church and a junior at Christiansburg High School is developing this weekend food program for Christiansburg Elementary School, currently, the only school in Christiansburg without a weekend food program of some type.
The program currently serves 8 of 12 eligible children. Sarah and her mom, Amy, are currently operating the program out of their home. It takes $400 to feed a child for one school year, $40 for one month, and $10 for one week. Our WELCA group would like to make a difference for the other five children at the school through our Change for Change program.
