"How I Plan To Use My Key" Explanations

 2011 

As good stewards, we use our time and talents to serve God in many ways.  Here are descriptions of the many opportunities for service at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church.   

From the web page, you can print a key (or list of tasks) for each member of your family.   Please complete and indicate the selected tasks on each key.  Please return your completed key(s) to the Church Office by April 7th.  Your responses may also be placed in the box in the Narthex.   
 

Campus Ministry Related Activities

A1 Campus Ministry Committee works closely with the Campus Pastors to encourage our congregation's ministry to, for, and with Virginia Tech students by planning and implementing programs, which will strengthen the relationship between Luther Memorial and the university community. Checking Item A1 on your time and talent response sheet indicates a desire to serve on this committee for one year.  

A2 Student Welcome - Assists with varied activities planned throughout the month of September, to welcomenew and returning students to Luther Memorial Church and Blacksburg.  

*A3 Graduation reception - Plans and implements graduation reception for college and high school students.  This includes ordering flowers, arranging for food and lining up hosts for the reception in late April or early May.  

*A4 L3, Student Lunches.  Participants periodically provide light lunches for approximately 20-25 students following 11:00 worship service on Sunday. Volunteers set-up, prepare, serve, clean up and are reimbursed for the cost of the food. Volunteers would provide only one meal per year.  

A5 Student Special needs.    As called upon, help with special needs of students.  

*A6 Adopt-a-Student.  Offers a home-cooked meal, friendly conversation and welcoming faces to Freshmen students, often away from home for an extended period for the first time. 

*A7 Coordinator for Adopt-a-Student.  Initiate publicity, pair-up students with families and coordinate kickoff introductions at the beginning of the fall semester.   

A8 L3 Coordinator.  Coordinate for Student Lunches.  Pick dates, organize volunteers.  Advertise function and communicate with Campus Ministry committee. 

A9 Ministry Generated Resources.  Assist Pastor Stallings in raising campus ministry funds through alumni, parents, and interested parties.  Assistance can vary from helping to write letters, to coordinating the student telethon, to investigating new sources of funds, etc.  Contact Pastor Stallings if interested in this valuable service.  

 Christian Education  Related Activities

*B1   Christian Education Committee plans and monitors the educational programs and ministries of our congregation. Checking Item B1 on your time and talent response sheet indicates a desire to serve on this committee for one year.  Having a youth member on this committee would be especially helpful. (Youth also) 

B2    Sunday School Steward.   Takes attendance, ensures teachers are all present, helps with audiovisual setup, assists with any other setup needs, coordinates space usage conflicts among classes.  

*B3    Sunday School Team Teacher.  A team teacher teaches a Sunday School class, attending as many sessions as possible.  The work can be divided among the team members according to their personal preferences.  For example, if one person likes to lead the lesson and do the activity, the team can operate in that way.  

B4 Sunday School Substitute Team Teacher. Substitute as part of a team occasionally when a regular Sunday School teacher is ill or has a weekend emergency.  

B5    Sunday School Bulletin Boards Designer.  Posts artwork, pictures, Bible verses and/or songs on bulletin boards upstairs periodically during church year to keep Sunday School area fresh, attractive and interesting for children. 

B6 Adult Sunday School Teacher or Small Group Lay Leader.  Teach/lead Adult Forum, the Sunday Scripture Lesson Study using curriculum and teacher's resources provided, or lead weekday/evening small group Bible study or faith discussion groups.  

B7   Rally Day Volunteer.  Helps prepare, organize, bring food, set-up games, etc. for Rally Day. (Youth also) 

B8     Rally Day Activity Leader. Leads activities such as games, entertainment on Rally Day. 

B9   Christmas Pageant Volunteer.  Assists with music, costumes, practice, directs, etc.  

*B10   Library Team Member.  Catalogues current inventory and future contributions to our church library,  encourages the use of these resources by members of the congregation, helps guide new book purchases for adult and children’s library, willing to develop on a rotating basis a monthly library display. (Youth also) 

*B11  Confirmand Mentor -  After receiving mentor training, shares worship experiences and faith with second year confirmation student during the Lenten season. 

B12   Vacation Bible School Volunteer.  Helps or assists with meals; organizes materials and crafts. (Youth also) 

B13   Vacation Bible School Teacher.  Leads one of the VBS classes. (Youth also) 

B14   Assistant Teacher for Vacation Bible School.  Helps VBS teacher. (Youth also) 

*B15  Vacation Bible School Coordinator.  Sets Bible School dates, recruits teachers, evaluates curriculum, acquires needed supplies in cooperation with Associate Pastor for Youth and Christian Education Committee.   

*B16   Vacation Bible School Assistant to the Coordinator.  Assists Coordinator in activities outlined above.  

B17 Vacation Bible School Recreation Leader.  Leads Bible School participants in outdoor games.

B18 Vacation Bible School Food Preparer.  Organize and prepare light lunch or snacks.  

*B19/20  Nursery Caregiver During Worship. Provides care for infants and toddlers during the 8:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. worship services. (Youth also)

 

B21 Nursery Caregiver, Special Services.  Provides nursery care for infants and toddlers during special worship services; e.g. Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, etc. (Youth also) 

*B22 Nursery Caregiver, Sunday School.  Provides nursery care for infants and toddlers during Sunday School.  

B23 Nursery Toy Organizer.  Periodically washes and sanitizes the toys in the nursery.  Disposes of broken toys.  Alerts the Associate Pastor for Youth and/or Christian Education Committee of needed toys and special maintenance needed in the nursery.  

CreationCare Activities

C1 CreationCare Committee.  Serve on the CreationCare Committee. The committee encourages growth in the  understanding and practice of creation-focused stewardship through education, worship and integrating  CreationCare practices and activities throughout the life of the congregation. Meetings are held  approximately 5 times a year.  (Youth also) 

C2 Coffee and Chocolate Ministry.  Manage the ordering, stocking, advertising and selling of the Equal Exchange Fair Trade and SERVV International products.  

C3 CreationCare Corner.   Submit brief CreationCare advice and helpful tips for publication in the bulletins  on a monthly basis (one submission per month.) (Youth also) 

C4 CreationCare Newsletter Articles.  Provide inspiring and interesting articles, or testimonies by members,  for the church newsletter on a monthly basis. Deadline for submissions to the newsletter is the 15th of each  month.  

C5 Blacksburg Ecumenical Environmental Effort.  Represent Luther Memorial in the Blacksburg ecumenical  community group that shares environmental ideas, discusses projects being undertaken by their  congregation, plans a once or twice a year project that all the churches can participate in together, and  participates as a partner in Sustainable Blacksburg. The EEE group meets 3-4 times a year.  

C6 CreationCare Fair.  Help with the development of creative and informative displays and activities for the CreationCare Fair as well as set-up and clean-up before and after the event.  (Youth also) 

C7 Battery Recycling.  Periodically empty battery collection baskets in the Narthex and church office to take batteries to the YMCA Thrift Store for recycling.  

C8 CFL Recycling.  Periodically empty CFL collection basket in the Narthex to take CFL’s to the YMCA Thrift Store for recycling.  

C9 Cardboard Recycling.  Periodically take cardboard from the church office to a local cardboard recycling location.  

C10 Earth Day Sunday Project.  Assist with the Earth Day Sunday project in April.  The 2009 project will be held on Sunday, April 19, with a “Bring your used and unwanted ELECTRONICS to church for repair, reuse and/or recycling at the YMCA Thrift Store.  Assistance will be needed with collection, loading and transporting electronics to the YMCA Thrift Store.  (Youth also) 

C11 CreationCare Adopt-A-Spot.  Assist with the planting, weeding, composting and mulching of the designated garden bed in the Adopt-A-Spot program.  The 2009 spring and summer project will be to incorporate companion planting of flowers, herbs and vegetables into the perennial bed.  (Youth also) 

 

Evangelism Related Activities

*D1 Evangelism Committee.  Leads congregation members to share the Gospel with others and invite the unchurched to worship. Ensures visitors are warmly welcomed, and cares for inactive and new members. Checking Item D1 on your time and talent response sheet indicates a desire to serve on this committee for one year.  

D2 Evangelism Commitment.  Make a personal commitment to share your faith and the Gospel with family, friends, neighbors and others, and invite them to worship at Luther Memorial.  

D3 Host for New Members.  Encourage participation by contacting new members and personally inviting them to congregational activities during the first three months after they join our church.  

*D4/5   Greeter for Worship at 8:30 and 11:00 a.m.  Arrive 20 minutes early for worship to greet people, especially visitors, as they enter the building for worship (wear nametag.) Distribute self-adhesive rose badges to visitors so they may be more easily identified and welcomed by other members.  Assist visitors with any questions they may have and invite them to sign the guest book.  (Youth also)   

D6/7 Post Worship Greeter.  Join the pastors in the Narthex immediately following worship.  Thank visitors for attending and invite them to sign the guest book.  Distribute LMLC “chip clips” with welcome note. Refer any special needs to the pastors when they have finished greeting everyone else. (Youth also) 

D8 Greeter Coordinator. Schedule greeters for 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. worship services.  

D9   Post-Worship Greeter Coordinator.  Schedule post worship greeters for 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. worship  services.  

D10 Publicity.  Contact newspapers regarding worship services, special activities or newsworthy information about Luther Memorial.   

D11 Photographer of New Members.  Use the church Polaroid camera to photograph new members on their  day of reception and display photos on the kiosk.  

D12 Postmaster.  Maintain alphabetical order of mailboxes as new members join our church family.   

 
Fellowship Related Activities

*E1 Fellowship Committee and Coordinators.  The committee plans group fellowship opportunities.  Individual coordinators publish event information in the bulletin and newsletter, organize volunteers, line up kitchen help (if needed) and submit a written report on a specific event. Checking Item E1 on your time and talent response sheet indicates a desire to serve on this committee for one year 

*E2/3 Birthday Fellowship Host.  Provides cake and punch for one of the receptions that are held on the second Sunday of each month to honor those who are celebrating a birthday during that month. Early service host provides name tags for both services.  Paperware provided by the church.  Host may charge cost of cake and punch to the church.  Sign up for your preferred month when the sign-up calendar is posted.  

E4/5  Birthday Fellowship Assistant.   Assist host with set-up, clean up and replenishes supplies during the monthly Birthday Fellowship reception.  (Youth also) 

E6   Birthday Fellowship Coordinator.  Serves as resource to Birthday Fellowship Hosts and Assistants. 

E7  Help with Potluck/Congregational Dinners.  Assists in set-up, serving, and clean up of occasional congregational meals held at the church.  (Youth also)  

E8  Small Group Fellowship.  Participates in a group of from 5 to 8 persons, who take turns gathering in one another's home or apartment for dinner, potluck, dessert, etc.  

E9  Help With Receptions.  Assists in set-up, serving and clean up of occasional festive receptions held on Sunday mornings following our worship service. (Youth also) 

E10  Annual Church Picnic.  Helps with planning and arrangements for congregational picnic (held in late May or early June). (Youth also) 

E11  Cooking/Baking.   Prepares items for occasional congregational meals and receptions.  

E12  Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner.  Assists in set-up, preparation, serving and clean up for pancake dinner held the night before Ash Wednesday.  

E13   Lenten Suppers.  Assists in set-up, preparation, serving and clean up for any dinners held at our church preceding Wednesday Lenten Services. 

E14  Advent Suppers.  Assists in set-up, preparation, serving and clean up for light suppers served in conjunction with Wednesday Advent Services.    

E15  Dutch Treat Lunch Coordinator. Makes reservations at local restaurants for our Dutch Treat Lunch Group that gathers and lunches on the fourth Sunday of each month.  

E16 Softball Picnic Coordinators.  Coordinate the annual softball picnic held at the shelter at Tom’s Creek field.  The entire congregation is invited to have dinner with the team and watch their game.  

E17 Ice Cream Social Coordinator.  One Wednesday in mid to late July, we hold an ice cream social at the church.  It lasts an hour in the after-dinner time frame.  

Finance Related Activities

*F1  Finance Committee.  Meets monthly to approve the Treasurer's Report and exercise oversight of all the financial affairs of the congregation. Annually prepares a draft budget for Congregation Council. Checking Item F1 on your time and talent response sheet indicates a desire to serve on this committee for one year. 

F2 Audit Committee.  Periodically reviews the books of the Treasurer and Financial Secretary, according to ELCA guidelines.  

F3/4  Teller. Counts and records the offering as part of a team, which gathers in the Teller's Room immediately following our 8:30 or 11:00 a.m. worship, services. (Frequency of service depends on how many sign up.)  

F5 Teller Coordinator - Serves as a resource and schedules Teller volunteers for 8:30 and 11:00 am services.

 

Parish Life  Related Activities

The purpose of the Parish Life Committee is to promote Christian growth by fostering personal relationships with the congregational family of Luther Memorial through visitation, support, care, and prayer.  Volunteers are needed to support the following functions:

G1 Parish Life Committee. Offers Christian care to other members of the congregation, especially but not exclusively, to those who are shut-in, bereaved, hospitalized, sick or expecting a baby. Checking Item

G1 on your time and talent response sheet indicates a desire to serve on this committee for one year.  The committee chair will contact you to discuss the integration of your desires and the committee needs of the moment.  

*G2 Oremus. Communicate (by writing a note) with members whose name appears in the Prayers section of the Sunday worship bulletins in order to reflect care and concerns of the congregation.  This is an ideal task for a regular worshipper who prefers to volunteer from home. .  

G3 Hospital Visitation. Visit members who are hospitalized, expressing to them the care and support of the congregation.  

G4 Meals for Emergencies. Prepare and deliver meals to shut-ins, and those experiencing family emergencies, new births, or sadness.  

*G5 Lay Communion Distribution. Volunteers take communion to those unable to attend church who have expressed a desire for the sacrament.  Each volunteer normally will take communion to eight members no more than once every quarter.  

G6 Telephone Prayer Chain. Be a member of the list of persons who are willing to pray about concerns or needs which are brought to the attention of the church.  These persons call each other and pass the word.  (Youth also) 

G7 Electronic Prayer Chain.  Participate with others willing to pray about concerns and needs of congregational members.  Information is provided by email to those who have asked to be informed of such concerns. (Youth also) 

G8 Homebound Visitation.  Regularly visit those who are homebound.  The visits strengthen the ties within the congregation and provide an opportunity for fellowship and conversation.  Visits are scheduled by the volunteer.  

G9 Transportation for the Homebound.  Provide transportation for members who are physically unable to get themselves to church activities.   

G10 Cradle Roll. Send out information to parents with children from birth to year 3 that deals with childcare issues and spiritual development.  

G11 Bereavement Support Ministry.  Prepare and/or serve food, assist with the reception of family and   friends following a funeral service.   

G12      Parish Nursing Program. Assists with health information/education programs, home visitation, and wellness promotion programs.   Volunteers need not be a health care professional.   

G13 Ministry to Luther Memorial Lutheran Church College Students - Establish and maintain contact, August to May, with our own parish college students by sending cards on birthdays and holidays and assembling/mailing "care" packages of goodies prior to Fall and Spring exam periods. 

G14 Ministry to Luther Memorial Lutheran Church Military Personnel.  Take whatever actions are appropriate to insure that our military personnel realize the congregation is aware of and appreciates their service. 

G15 Photography.  Create and post copies of pictures taken at church activities.  

G16 Tape Ministry.  Periodically delivers tapes of the Sunday service to homebound members of the congregation. 

G17 We Miss You Ministry.  Periodically contact members of the congregation who have not attended for awhile or whose attendance has been sporadic.  Contact would be by note or a call.  This is an ideal opportunity for someone who desires to volunteer yet remain in the home. 

G18 50-Plus Ministry.  Identify and implement programs and activities based on the results of the Senior Adult Ministry Assessment.  

G19 Emergency Winter Support.  Provide support to members of the congregation who are unable to leave their homes due to inclement weather.  Could involve shoveling out from the snow, running to the grocery or drug store or any other tasks we are asked to do.  

Property Related Activities

*H1 Property Committee.  Participates in decisions and activities affecting the physical appearance, operation, and condition of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church building and grounds.   Checking Item

H1 on your time and talent response sheet indicates a desire to serve on this committee for one year 

*H2 Lawn Care and Grounds Maintenance.  With team of volunteers, mows the church lawn using the church's tractors.  Occasional hedge trimming. (Frequency of service depends on how many sign up, usually once every 5-8 weeks for 2-3 hours during April-October. (Youth also) 

H3 Adopt-a-Spot.  Cares for an existing planted area by weeding, feeding, pruning, and replacing plants as needed.  Keeps the appearance of our church grounds attractive! 

H4 Work Day Volunteer. Participate in work days at the church as they are scheduled to help clean-up,  spread mulch, and fix-up. (Youth also) 

H5 Building Maintenance--Plumbing, Heating, Electrical, Carpentry, or Cleaning. Performs occasional specialized odd jobs in these areas as needs arise.  Utilization of members who have the knowledge and skills, saves Luther Memorial Lutheran Church money to use in direct ministry.   Please specify the skills you possess on the bottom of the form.   

H6 Snow Volunteer.  After a snowfall, or when snow or ice threaten, helps clear and salt pathways about 30 minutes before church services. 

Social Ministry Related Activities  

I1    Social Ministry Committee.  Extends Christian compassion and helpfulness to the ill, the aged, the orphaned, the underprivileged, the imprisoned and, in general, to persons of all ages in need of aid in body or soul. Checking Item I1 on your time and talent response sheet indicates a desire to serve on this committee for one year.  

I2  Lord's Table.  Gardeners in the congregation share their harvest with other members who then make a donation in exchange.  This table is located in the Fellowship Hall.  Proceeds from contributions go to World Hunger.  

I3  Change for Change Jar.  Contributes loose change to the Change for Change Jar in the Sanctuary.  Monies donated are used to help the hungry, homeless and victims of natural disasters. (Youth also) 

I4 Change for Change Teller/Monitor.  Removes contributions from jar at regular intervals to be sent to recipients.  

I5  Congregational Christmas Card.  In lieu of sending individual cards to members of the congregation, sign our Congregational Christmas Card and donate a portion of the money saved by not purchasing and mailing cards. Watch for card in Narthex in December.  

I6 Interfaith Food Pantry Donations. Contributes non-perishable food and household items to be distributed to needy families in the community monthly. 

I7 Food Pantry Substitute Volunteer.  Helps distribute food when regular volunteers are unavailable. 

I8 Christmas Outreach: Grocery Gift Certificates.  Congregation members contribute money to purchase gift certificates at local grocery stores, which are then given to disadvantaged families in the area.  Opportunities are announced at the Fall Congregational Meeting.  Watch for sign-up opportunities in bulletin in December.  

I9  Christmas Outreach:  Provide Cookies/Brownies.  Members of our congregation willing to make cookies and/or brownies which are then taken with the grocery gift certificates to disadvantaged families in the Blacksburg area as part of our Christmas Outreach.  Opportunities are announced at the Fall Congregational Meeting and in the bulletin. 

I10   Quilting.   Meets periodically to quilt.  Quilts are given to those in need, including victims of flood, fire, or other disaster; and to each family at the Von Bora Haus.  The family takes the quilt with them when they leave the house. 

I11   Transportation.  Provide transportation for errands, medical appts, etc. to residents of the von Bora Haus. 

I12   Bulletin Board Designer.  Use materials provided by the committee to design bulletin board in fellowship hall, displaying activities of Social Ministry 

I13   Photographer(s). Take pictures of church members volunteering with community social service agencies. 

I14 Salvation Army Book Bag Project.  Donate backpacks and school supplies for the Salvation Army to distribute to needy students in the area.  

I15. Souper Bowl Sunday.  Assist youth with efforts to collect cans of soup for local food bank.  Work is in conjunction with National Souper Bowl of Caring.  

I16.     Micah’s Backpack.   During the school year, Micah’s Backpack provides healthy meals and snacks to hungry students in our community. 

Stewardship Related Activities

J1 Stewardship Committee promotes the idea that all of life is a gift from God and how we respond is "stewardship"; educates the congregation in the Christian use of time, talent and money; diffuses knowledge of the congregation's local, synodical, national and worldwide ministries; and organizes the annual stewardship emphasis to encourage informed and grateful giving.  The committee meets approximately 6 times per year. Checking Item J1 on your time and talent response sheet indicates a desire to serve on this committee for one year. 

J2 Synodical Boards, Committees, Task Groups.  Serves on committees, boards or task groups at the Synod level.  Please indicate the specific area of your interest, i.e. worship, education, etc.  

*J3 Coordinator for United Lutheran Appeal.  Provides information to congregation and coordinates spring United Lutheran Appeal financial campaign.  

J4 Stewardship Nugget and Articles – Choose a stewardship article and nugget for the newsletter and submit to the Stewardship Committee.  Volunteers can sign up for one month commitments.  

*J5    Pew Card Monitor - Periodically replaces pew materials (Pew Offering envelopes, Prayer request cards and Little Lutheran note cards).  Notifies secretary when replacement supplies are needed. 

J6 Schedule Coordinator.  Prepares the monthly Sunday Service volunteer schedule with input from the various volunteer coordinators.  Adjusts assignments to avoid scheduling a volunteer for more than one task on any given Sunday. 

 
Worship and Music Related Activities

K1 Worship and Music Committee.  Oversees the entire worship life of the congregation. Checking Item K1 on your time and talent response sheet indicates a desire to serve on this committee for one year. 

K2 Worship Enrichment Sub-Committee.  Monitors the variety and content of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church worship life; meets to plan special worship experiences and all festival services. (Youth also) 

K3 Hymn Selection Sub-Committee.  Meets periodically to choose hymns for our worship services.

(Youth also) 

K4 Outside Music Program Coordinator.  Establish a program of visiting groups to add to worship service.  Advertise these.  

K5   Senior Choir Member.  Rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m., leads the singing at 11:00 worship and sings weekly anthems, except during the summer. (Youth also) 

K6/7   Cantor.  Chants those parts of the liturgy assigned to an assisting minister. (Youth also) 

K8/9   Instrumentalist. Provides instrumental accompaniment to hymns or choral anthems.  Please specify instrument on the bottom of the form. (Youth also) 

K10/11 Soloist.  Sing solos during our Sunday morning worship services. (Youth also) 

K12 Acolyte Advisor.  Serves as a resource to acolytes for all worship services and trains new acolytes.

 

*K13/14  Acolyte.  Lights candles during prelude, extinguishes them following benediction, and receives offering bags from ushers at 8:30 or 11:00 worship service. Acolytes may also assist as torch bearers and crucifer during festival services. (Youth Also) 

K15 Altar Care Coordinator.  Schedules and assigns volunteers.  

K16 Altar Care. Consists of several tasks. New members will be given training.  Schedules and complete Altar Care Guidelines are placed in each Committee Members mailbox and also posted on the bulletin board in the sacristy.   Candelabra: Clean wax from candelabra when needed (check monthly).  Candle Care . Change fuel cell as required. Linen care: Corporal and veil (hang over the bread and wine) should be pressed monthly and cleaned as needed by hand with Woolite.  Hang across the large laundry hangers in the closet with robes.  Wash and press purificators (napkins) each Sunday.  Polishing:  Polish the Pyx (Communion wafer box), Patton (small silver dish), and candle lighter each month.  Wash the silver communion trays. Polish Baptismal bowl as needed.   

K17   Tape Worship Service  -  Tapes worship services for homebound. 

*K18/19  Usher.  Hands out bulletins and seats all worshippers, counts those in attendance, receives offering, and presents communion elements at altar at our 8:30 or 11:00 worship service as well as at special services. Distributes friendship pads for recording worship participation. Ushers serve for a month at a time but usually only once or twice a year.  (Youth Also) 

K20 Usher Coordinator.  Schedules ushers for the 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. worship services as well as special services.  

*K21/22  Communion Assistant. Prepares and cleans up.  Helps distribute bread and wine at the 8:30 or 11:00 worship service.   

K23     Communion Assistant Coordinator.  Schedules Communion Assistants for 8:30 and 11AM services and  any additional services when needed.  

K24/25 Lector.  Reads first and second lessons, leads prayer of the church, reads "assisting minister" parts in our liturgy at the 8:30 or 11:00 worship service. (Youth Also) 

K26 Designing and Sewing Banners.  Helps to design and sew seasonal banners to be hung in our sanctuary.  

K27/28  Crucifer. Carries processional cross during festival worship services. (Youth Also) 

K29  Flower Coordinator.  Calls those who have donated flowers for necessary information, orders flowers, if necessary and relays information to the secretary for the bulletin.  

K30 Flower Care and Coffee Set-up.  Puts flowers on Altar. Sets-up coffee and juice for fellowship (between services on Sunday).  Set up may be done on Saturday or before the 8:30 service on Sunday.  Frequency depends on number of volunteers 

K31 Change Altar Paraments.  Changes banners, cross draping, etc.  Checks with pastors for specific directions to complement church seasons.  

K32    Robe Coordinator.   Supervises maintenance of robes for acolytes and communion assistants.  

K33   Christmas Decorators/Undecorators.  Helps set up trees, poinsettias etc for Christmas season and/or take them down afterwards on dates advertised in newsletter and Sunday bulletins.  Families with children, singles, empty nesters and retired are all welcome.  Announced in bulletin and newsletter.  (Youth Also) 

K34   Caller.  Calls the week before the assigned Sunday to remind individuals of their Sunday service jobs within the Luther Memorial family. 
 

Youth Related Activities

*L1 Youth Committee promotes the participation of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church youth in all aspects of our parish life.  Includes the planning and implementation of youth ministry events. Checking Item L1 on your response sheet indicates a desire to serve on this committee for one year. (Youth Also) 

*L2 Youth Group Advisor. Plans and participates in youth ministry activities.  Maintains a friendly and advisory relationship with youth in grades 6-12.  

L3 Youth Group Driver.  Assists with transportation to and from activities.  

L4 Youth Event Chaperone.  Serves as chaperone at youth events.  Indicate all the types of events in which you may wish to participate by circling the events on the survey form.  

L5 Cook for ACT. Prepares, serves, and cleans-up for a light supper each Wednesday evening.  

L6 Service Week Chaperone. Gives approximately a week of time during the summer to assist with the youth work project.

Other Activities

Z1 Women of the ELCA.  Bible Study Group meets once a month, on the 2nd Monday at 2 p.m.   

Z2 Chrismon Committee.   Creates new Chrismons or other Christmas decorations when need occurs through loss or damage of current materials.  Coordinated through WELCA. 

Z3        Fellowship Time Coffee.  Take a turn to make coffee and hot water before the 8:30 AM service OR be available to replenish carafes during Fellowship Time. 

Z4 Volunteer Office Assistance.  Helps the secretary by collating, folding, sorting, labeling, organizing of materials such as stewardship mailings, newsletters, etc.; helping with large congregational mailings like the Annual Reports, or with telephone duty during busy times.      

Z5 Proof Monthly Newsletter and Prayer Ventures.  Receive e-mail copy or paper copy of newsletter and  prayer ventures. Quickly (within a day or two) return to secretary with corrections and changes.  

Z6 Substitute Proofreader for Sunday Bulletins.  Proof bulletins occasionally on Thursday mornings.   

Z7 Sunday Bulletin.  Helps as part of team to fold and staple bulletins.  

Z8 Couples Group Member. Participates in a monthly group of couples from the church for food, fellowship and study.  

Z9 Couples Group Facilitator.  Maintains communication between the church and the group, and between group members.  Coordinates volunteers for monthly meetings and helps obtain materials for study.  

Z10 Couples Group Childcare Volunteer.  Provides childcare for 1-1 ½ hours during the monthly Couples Group meetings.  

Z11 Couples Group Children’s Lesson Leader.  Leads the children/family devotional time during monthly Couples Group meetings.  

Z12 Couples Group Host.  Sets and communicates the meal theme, contacts childcare providers, sets up for the dinner, leads the meal prayer, and supervises clean up after the meeting.   

Z13 Couples Group Adult Study Leader.  Prepares and leads the adult lesson during monthly couples group meetings. 

Z14 Pentecost Sunday Readers. Specify foreign language spoken. 

Z15 Kroger Care Card Manager.  Order Kroger Care Cards for members to purchase and promote their use.  

Z16 How I plan to Proclaim my faith.  Use the space at the bottom of the survey form to provide additional information, such as identifying (H5) Building Maintenance skills,  (K8/9) Instruments you play,  (Z14) a Foreign Language that you can speak; or to list some job you would like to do but could not find in the job descriptions.  Suggestions regarding other areas of volunteer involvement are welcomed.
