Actively Christian Teens or ACT is the group for youth between 6th-12th grades. The purpose of this group is to offer faith formation, fellowship, and opportunities for service learning. They meet weekly on Wednesday from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the church. The meeting begins with a meal and a program which may be a discussion, worship service, or a time to just hang out.
The following list will give you an idea what ACT is all about. Current information will be posted on this page as the schedule changes.
- Weekly Meetings
5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Leadership is provided by students, lay advisors, and Pastor Stallings.
- Service Projects
From time to time throughout the year the members of ACT participate in events like Relay for Life, the March of Dimes Walk, or the CROP Walk. They collect toys for the con Bora Haus (a ministry of the church to the homeless), and organize canned food collections for the Blacksburg Food Pantry. Other opportunities include a week long summer mission trip. In the past they have worked with the Hurley Community Center, soup kitchens, food pantries or clothing banks in North Carolina.
- Service at LMLC
The youth are encouraged to share their time and talent with ministries of the church. This may include being an acolyte, ushers, lector, nursery care helper or participant in the church work day.
- In-house Retreats
In house retreats are held from time to time. The group travels to a local camp ground to do some group building and to live in Christian community.
- Synodical Youth Events
The Virginia Synod offers a number of youth events that are held throughout the year.
